Stunning turnaround: San Luis Reservoir, nearly empty in August, now full for first time in six years

(Patrick Tehan/Bay Area News Group) The water level is at one hundred percent at the San Luis Reservoir near Los Banos, Calif., Tue Tue Mar 7 In Aug San Luis Reservoir, the vast lake along Hwy 152 between Gilroy and Los Banos, and a key source of water for farmers and millions of Californians, was just ten percent full, the lowest level in 27 years. But now, in a stunning turnaround, San Luis Reservoir is full.

A parched expanse of cracked mud, littered with old beer bottles and millions of tiny clam shells, San Luis was at its lowest level in 27 years.

The reservoir was finished in 1967, two months ahead of schedule.
